The Basics of Web Design: Getting Started

creativeSo, you think you’re ready to build a website and perhaps even rake in some profit from it? Well, you’ve come to the right place. Here, you can look forward to some effective ideas and tips on how you can possibly get started in the website design industry. Surely, you’ve met some people who have perhaps told you that it’s a little too late to get on the bandwagon, because too many individuals are already into web design. No need to worry, though, because here, you won’t just find some encouragement; you might actually find hope.

The first step, of course, is not to think about website visitors just yet. The first of web design (well, of anything, really), is to begin where most people wouldn’t want to begin: the basics. So, without much ado, here are a few basic things you’ll need to learn and perhaps get into, if indeed you are going to make a career out of web design.

Basic Steps for Web Design

computer programFirst of all, you will need to read, read, read. Reading into the basics such as HTML, CSS, and PHP. You see, while there will be those who will tell you that you can very well skip this part and move on to the video tutorials, you’ll end up understanding the process better if you learn to be patient with the basic stuff. By doing so, no matter what the video tutorials say and what terminology they use, you can very well catch up and understand what they’re saying.

Second, you also need to get the necessary software. Getting the right software means precisely what sorts of software you need just to come up with the best possible design for the project at hand. So, just what are these ‘necessary’ software? First, you will need a code editor. For starters, you can begin with Adobe Dreamweaver. Second, you also need an image editor. Beginners (and even experts) would usually recommend Adobe Photoshop for this. And, of course, you’re going to need a File Transfer Protocol application, which usually means FileZilla.

Third, you will need to remember that creativity is key. You can go lazy in choosing to not take a bath, you can go lazy in not waking up for breakfast and not making breakfast at all, but dear, you absolutely cannot go lazy on design. The way you envision your design actually reveals the depth of your capacity to get creative with your design. Needless to say, creativity does not have to mean that you can just carelessly place irresponsible stuff that spark your imagination. Pay attention to the need to make everything hang together.

In the end, starting a career in website design calls for more than just little trainings and tutorial videos. While these may certainly be helpful, you are going to need more than what these short inputs have to offer. More likely, you will need to do a lot of the research on your own as well as from trusted sources and resources. Who knows, your next big career shift might just be on the next corner.
